THE 1980s began with John Lennon’s murder and ended with the collapse of Communism; spawned Senna, SuperTed and Top Trumps, ra-ra skirts and Rubik’s Cube, Whitney Houston and Wham! A glorious gaudy decade of leggings and Lycra, bad hair and bad boys. ‘You cannot be serious!’ screamed McEnroe. And in the ‘80s, we weren’t.
